The 67th season of the FIA Formula One World Championship took off in spectacular style in Melbourne with an incident filled race which saw Fernando Alonso destroy his car in a crash with Esteban Gutierrez, but luckily walked away unharmed.

The reigning champion Lewis Hamilton had a bad start which saw him drop from pole position to sixth, but he managed to claw his way back to finish second behind the eventual winner Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes.

After FIA’s World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris there was a change in regulations which meant increasing the number of races allowed a year by 1 to a total of 21. This is the largest number of races for a season in F1 history. The extra race was to bring in the Azerbaijan GP in Baku on June 19th.

This year also will see the return of the Germany GP in Hockenheim after being dropped form the calendar last season due to the alternating agreement between Hockenheim and Nürburgring being put into doubt.
