First test in a Sauber

Sauber

Simona de Silvestro has had her first test in a Sauber at Fiorano. The 2012 machine was re-liveried to reflect some of Simona’s own sponsors as well as some wording of “clean air” and “hybrid” emblazoned on the car.

The Swiss racer has already completed a lot of simulator work and Sauber have been most impressed with the results thus far.

The 25 year old driver from Thun in Switzerland had been for the last 4 years competing in the IndyCar Racing Circuit and decided to join Sauber as an “affiliated driver”.

American IndyCar series

Simona has enjoyed some success competing in the American IndyCar series but the Swiss racer has sights set on Formula One™. With Susie Wolff set to run FP1 at Silverstone later this year, Simona is working towards her super-licence which will also see her perhaps on the grid for Sauber during one of the FP1 sessions.

Perhaps not much longer until we see a full-time female racer in F1™.

News Update 2014

Simona de Silvestro has been dropped by the Sauber Formula 1 team due to a dispute with her contract. The F1™ Team and Simona`s management could not come to terms with her financial agreement with the team and subsequently she has been relieved the Swiss driver of her duties. At the time she was looking like the only female driver to make the leap to Formula 1.

News Update 2015

On 2 April 2015, Simona stated that she would return to Indy Cars with the Andretti Autosport No. 29 Honda. She managed to finish 4th in the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana. A month later she competed with Andretti’s Formula E team in a double-header finale in London.
