THE CANADIAN GRAND PRIX: SUNDAY 18th JUNE 2023

"When I was a little kid and in go-karting, I was dreaming of being a Formula 1 driver," and "I could never have imagined winning 41 grands prix. Of course, to tie with Ayrton is something incredible. I'm proud of that." - (Max Verstappen)

Max marches on again and takes another GP in his race for the title

By easily winning the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen gave himself and his Red Bull team another flawless weekend.

The Dutchman, who started from the front due to his qualifying performance, demonstrated his dominance once more as he continues on his goal for a third consecutive World Drivers Championship. Red Bull also celebrated their 100th victory with that triumph, maintaining their perfect season record by taking first place in each of the seven races.

Verstappen now has 41 Formula One victories under his belt, which is tied with famous Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna for fifth-most in the sport's history.

Behind Max, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton engaged in a good battle at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with Alonso finishing second for Aston and Hamilton third for Mercedes. While Mercedes will once again be encouraged that their car was in the mix, as they had been at the last race in Spain, and it was somewhat of a return to form for the Aston Martin team.

Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin maintained his excellent season-long performance by placing second, while his former adversary Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line in third. George Russell, another member of the Mercedes team, was forced to leave the race early due to damage to his vehicle caused by colliding with a wall at corner six.

Mercedes had anticipated struggling in Canada's slow corners, so the fact that they were successful there will give them a lot of encouragement because their new enhancements have improved their performance on a variety of circuits.

They were very much engaged in a fight of their own, but when it came down to it, Verstappen was in a league of his own. After eight rounds, the Dutchman leads the world championship by 69 points, with teammate Sergio PĂ©rez finishing only sixth.

Verstappen, who has earned six victories out of eight, and is largely responsible for Red Bull's continued unblemished record this season. While it is true that Mercedes and Aston Martin appear to be closing the distance, it must also be remembered that Verstappen is comfortably pulling away from Alonso at the finish line, leading by nine seconds, and is merely holding that lead rather than flog his car needlessly.

The remaining spots that awarded points were filled by Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez, Alex Albon, Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, and Valtteri Bottas.

It is impossible to overlook the fact that he is currently winning with utter ease. Mad Max is no longer the ferocious, overly enthusiastic, charging youth who burst into the F1 scene eight years ago. Now that he is a more dedicated student, he consistently performing without seeming to try, while the other drivers behind him are clambering for 2nd or 3rd places on the podium, what can the next race Austria hold for the awaiting F1 fans.
