Whittlebury
The village and civil parish of Whittlebury is located in the southern part of the English county of Northamptonshire, not far from the Buckinghamshire border. The town of Towcester, with which it is connected by major roads, is directly south of it. The parish's population was 586 at the time of the 2001 census, rising somewhat to 589 at the time of the 2011 census. The village's name translates to 'Witla Fortification.'
The prehistoric past of Whittlebury is mostly unknown. However, a hillfort from the Iron Age was found in May 2000 next to St. Mary's church and graveyard. In addition, archaeology demonstrates that Whittlebury was occupied during the Roman, Anglo-Saxon, and mediaeval periods, the latter of which is supported by historical documents.
The growth of Whittlebury was tied to the Whittlewood Forest, of which it was a part, and the Honour of Grafton throughout the Middle Ages and until the early 19th century. The 3rd Baron Southampton, who built Whittlebury Lodge, purchased land in Whittlebury and Silverstone from the 5th Duke of Grafton in 1855.
Today, Whittlebury contains a 213-bed hotel near to Whittlebury Park, a 36-hole golf course that served as a venue for the England Golf Championship, which is close to Silverstone Circuit and a fantastic location for enjoying all action and atmosphere of the British Grand Prix.
Whittlebury Hotel
Luxury Hotel with Spa
The only hotel within walking distance of the Silverstone racetrack is Whittlebury Hall, a superb four-star hotel and spa located in rural Northamptonshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to spend time relaxing with the teams and avoid all of the traffic chaos that can happen at the track during the British GP weekend, when it turns into a home for the majority of the teams and drivers.
The English Tourist Board has recognised the hotel for its excellent standard of accommodations and service, making it one of just 18 hotels in the nation to achieve this grade. The hotel's historic Georgian architecture is accented by luxurious furnishings and fabrics. Whittlebury Hall is able to meet the highest standards and expectations you would have for a hotel and spa by providing genuine hospitality, just like the team at Grand Prix Adventures.
