The Historical City of Baku

Baku is the largest city in the Caucasus (Region between the Black and the Caspian Sea) and a great place to explore especially the historical centre of Baku which unveils its turbulent past, from its roots as a Persian capital, through its oil boom to the time of the Soviet occupation, it has gone through many changes. The old city is a maze of alleys, mosques, historic buildings, and remnants of fortification, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower, built in the 12th century as part of the walled city, now listed among UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Much more than a historic site, the city hosts vibrant arts and cultural activities, as well as a bustling modern business sector and there is of course all the excitement of the Grand Prix, which is one not to be missed and one of our favourites.

Fire Temple, Gobustan and Yanar Dag

Also, on your trip to Baku you will go to the Ateshgah Fire Temple, a Temple of Fire in Surakhani near Baku, just 30km away. Based on Persian and Indian inscriptions, the temple was used as a Hindu and Zoroastrian place of worship.

This whole territory is world renowned for such unique natural phenomenon as the burning exits of natural gas into the atmosphere (gas, escaping outside, mixes with oxygen and lights up).

You will visit the ancient rock carvings in Gobustan National Park and experience burning gas forming from the ground and Active mud volcanoes.
