The Historic City of Baku, A Place Not to be Missed!

Baku is a lovely city and steeped in history, so if you can find some free time in the morning when the Grand Prix is not on, then why have a look around the city of Baku. There are 3 distinct parts to the city - the newest part of the city, the Soviet built city, and the ancient city. There are some cultural sites that are worth a look e.g. The Palace of the Shirvanshahs in the old town, which was built back in the 15th-century by the Shirvanshahs and includes the palace's main building, burial-vaults, the shah's mosque, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi's mausoleum and bath house, well worth a visit. "one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture" is how it is described by UNESCO. There is also in the old city the famous Maiden Tower, which is covered in mystery and legend, with a great view of Baku Bay.

There are a few museums too to help pass the time before the main event in the driving seat including The Azeri National Costume Museum (Doll Museum), Taghiyev History Museum, Latif Karimov Carpet and Applied Arts Museum.
